Built to order

What we build

Every build starts with a conversation about what the machine is for and what you want to spend. The specification follows from that, not the other way round.

Gaming PCs

From a first proper gaming machine to a high-end build. Tell us the games you play, the monitor you have and the frame rate you are after, and we will spec to hit it. Balanced properly, so the graphics card is not held back by a weak processor or starved by a cheap power supply.

Office and business PCs

Machines for work that need to start quickly, stay quiet and keep going. Built around a solid state drive and enough memory to have everything open at once, rather than a headline processor you will never fully use. If you need several the same, we can build them to match.

Build only, using your own parts

Already bought the components, or been given a pile of them? Bring them in and we will assemble, cable and test the machine properly. Handy if you have got most of the way through a build yourself and want someone to finish it or find out why it will not post.

Upgrades to what you already own

Sometimes a new machine is not the answer. If your current PC has years left in it, we will say so and tell you which one or two parts would make the difference. We would rather sell you a graphics card than a whole computer you did not need.

How it works

Four steps, no surprises

01

Tell us what it is for

Pop in or send the details. What you will use it for, what you have got now, and roughly what you want to spend.

02

We spec it and quote it

A full parts list with a price, and the reasoning behind each choice. Free, and yours to take away and think about. No obligation.

03

Deposit, then we build

A deposit covers the parts so we can order them. Then it gets built, cabled tidily and tested properly before it goes anywhere.

04

Collect and pay the balance

The balance is due when you collect. We will show you it running before you take it away, and we are on Queen Street if you have questions later.

Where you stand

The warranty, in plain English

Every part keeps its own warranty

Components come with the manufacturer’s own cover, and on the bigger items that is often longer than any shop would give you — graphics cards and power supplies frequently carry several years. We give you the paperwork so you know exactly what each part is covered for.

We stand behind the build

The assembly itself — the way it is put together, cabled and configured — carries our 90-day labour warranty, the same as every repair we do. If something we did is not right, bring it back and we will sort it.

You are also dealing with a shop you can walk into, rather than a returns address. That matters more than it sounds when something goes wrong.

Typical prices

What a build costs

There is no honest price list for this. A machine for a home office and a machine for high-refresh gaming are different objects, and component prices move constantly. So every build is quoted individually — the quote is free, and the price we give you is the price you pay.

Questions we get asked

Custom build questions, answered

Is a custom PC cheaper than buying one off the shelf?

Not always cheaper, but almost always better value. A pre-built machine at a given price has to hit a headline specification, and the money usually comes off the parts nobody reads on the box — the power supply, the cooling, the drive. Built to order, every pound goes where you decide. And you can see exactly what is in it.

Can I supply my own parts?

Yes. Bring what you have and we will build with it. That includes half-finished builds that will not start — a fair few of the machines on our bench arrived in a box of bits with somebody at their wits’ end. Parts you supply are covered by whoever you bought them from, not by us, but our work on the build still is.

What warranty do I get?

Two things, and they are different. Each component keeps the manufacturer’s own warranty, which on graphics cards and power supplies is often several years. The build itself — our assembly and setup — carries our 90-day labour warranty. We hand over the parts paperwork so you can see what is covered and for how long.

Do I have to pay up front?

A deposit to cover the parts, so we can order them, and the balance when you collect. We will tell you the deposit before you commit to anything. There is nothing to pay to get a quote.

How long does it take?

It depends almost entirely on how quickly the parts arrive, so we will give you a realistic date along with the quote rather than a number that sounds good. If something is on back order we will say so and offer an alternative instead of leaving you waiting.

Will you help me choose, or do I need to know what I want?

You do not need to know anything. Plenty of people come in able to say only “it needs to run this game” or “the current one takes five minutes to open a spreadsheet”, and that is enough to work from. If you do know exactly what you want, even better — tell us the parts list and we will build it.
