This page explains what we do with your information when you use this website or bring a device into the shop. We have tried to write it in plain English rather than legal boilerplate. If anything here is unclear, ring us on 07734 666100 and ask.
Who we are
@Compu-Tech, 27 Queen Street, Horbury, Wakefield WF4 6LP. Telephone 07734 666100. Email info@atcompu-tech.co.uk.
For data protection purposes we are the “data controller” for the information described below — meaning we are the ones responsible for it.
What we collect, and why
When you use the quote form
The form on this site asks for:
- Your name — so we know who we are replying to
- Your mobile number — so we can reach you about the repair
- Your email address — optional, and only used to reply
- What the device is and what is wrong with it — so we can give you a sensible answer
We use this only to respond to your enquiry and to carry out the repair if you go ahead. We do not add you to a mailing list, and we do not sell or share your details with anyone for marketing.
The form submission is stored in this website’s database and emailed to our own shop mailbox. If we have text alerts switched on, the device type, your name, your number and a short description are also sent by SMS to the shop mobile through our messaging provider, so we see new enquiries quickly.
When you bring a device in
We take your name and contact number so we can tell you when the job is done. If a repair involves your data — a phone, a laptop, a hard drive — we only access what we need in order to test the device or recover your files, and we do not copy, keep or look through your personal files beyond that.
How long we keep it
Website enquiries are kept for 12 months and then deleted. Repair records are kept for 6 years — because of the guarantee we give on parts and labour, and because we may need them for tax and accounting.
Cookies
A cookie is a small file a website stores in your browser. This site uses very few.
- Remembering your cookie choice. When you answer the cookie message we store a single cookie so we do not ask again. It lasts a year and contains nothing but your answer.
- Making the site work. WordPress, the software this site runs on, may set a cookie if you submit a form or log in as staff. These are needed for the site to function.
- The Google map. The map on our Find us section is loaded from Google, and Google sets its own cookies and can see your IP address when it loads. Because of that, we do not load the map at all until you tell us it is alright. If you choose “Essential only”, no map is loaded and nothing goes to Google. You can still open the map in Google’s own app or website using the link we provide, which is your choice rather than ours.
You can change your mind at any time using the Cookie settings link in the footer of every page.
Reviews shown on this site
Our star rating and review count are fetched from our own Google Business Profile by our web server, twice a day. That request is made by the website, not by your browser, so nothing about you is sent to Google when you read them. The reviews themselves were written by customers and published on Google, and are shown here with the reviewer’s name as it appears there.
Who else handles your information
We keep this list short deliberately. The following companies process information on our behalf:
- IONOS — hosts this website and our email
- Google — if you accept the map, and for our Business Profile and reviews
- Our SMS provider — only if text alerts are switched on, and only to pass on new enquiry details
We do not use advertising networks, tracking pixels, or analytics that follow you around the internet.
Your rights
Under UK data protection law you can ask us to:
- tell you what information we hold about you, and give you a copy
- correct anything that is wrong
- delete it, where we do not have a legal reason to keep it
- stop using it for a particular purpose
Ask by ringing the shop or emailing info@atcompu-tech.co.uk. We will respond within a month and it costs you nothing.
If you are unhappy with how we have handled your information you can complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office at ico.org.uk or on 0303 123 1113. We would rather you came to us first so we can put it right.
CCTV in the shop
We record CCTV on the premises to prevent crime and protect staff, customers and stock. Signs are displayed. Footage is kept for a limited period and then overwritten, is only accessible to us, and is shared with the police only where there is a proper reason. If you have been recorded you can ask for a copy of the footage of yourself.
Changes to this policy
If we change how we handle information we will update this page and change the date at the top.
