The shop on Queen Street
Family-run, independent, and fixing Wakefield’s tech for over twenty years. Here’s how it started and why we do it the way we do.

Our story
I left the big shed to do it properly
I studied IT at college and then spent several years working at PC World in Leeds. It was a good grounding — you see a lot of hardware pass through a place like that.
What I couldn’t settle with was the answer people kept being given. Someone would come in with a laptop that needed one part and a bit of time, and they’d walk out having bought a new one. Not because it was the right call for them, but because that was the business.
So I left, came to Horbury, and opened @Compu-Tech to do it the way I thought it ought to be done: look at the thing properly, tell people the truth about it, and fix it if fixing makes sense.
“If your device can be fixed and made as good as new, that’s what I’ll tell you — not that you need to buy another one.”
What that means in practice
Four things that haven’t changed in twenty years
We look for free
Every job starts with a proper diagnostic that costs you nothing. You get a real answer about what’s wrong before any money is discussed.
No fix, no fee
If we can’t repair it, there’s nothing to pay. Not a look-at-it fee, not a diagnostic charge. Nothing.
The quote is the price
We tell you what it will cost before we start, and that’s what you pay. No phone call halfway through asking for more.
We’ll talk you out of it
If a repair doesn’t make financial sense, we’ll say so — even though that means we don’t get the work. It’s the whole reason this shop exists.
Plain English, always
You’ll get an explanation of what went wrong that actually makes sense, without jargon and without being made to feel daft for asking.
Guaranteed properly
Twelve months on every part we fit and ninety days on labour. If something isn’t right afterwards, you know exactly where to find us.
What we do
Buy. Sell. Fix.
Repairs are the heart of it, but the shop does three things. We fix what you bring in, we buy old devices for cash, and we sell refurbished kit that’s been properly tested and comes with a warranty.
The shop
Still on Queen Street, just next door
We moved into number 27 last year — same street, same shop, one door along. If you’ve been before and find yourself looking at the wrong window, that’ll be why.
There’s parking right outside and we’re a couple of minutes from the bus stop. No appointment needed — walk in and we’ll have a look.
